The Department of Electrical Engineering of Technological Education is the undergraduate programme of studies available; it is structured in three sectors, the first referring to education on courses of general background, the second on issues of electronic systems and automations, and the third on issues of electrical energy and electrical and technical applications. The engagement with new technologies is a key condition, along with a significant lever towards financial and social development. The dissemination of automation, electronics, telecommunications, and information technology, along with the modernisation of electricity facilities and power systems using non-renewable energy sources, and the development of systems using renewable energy sources has led to the specification of priority fields of actions for the programme of studies, which aims to the provision of quality knowledge that cover the requirements of this cycle of activities and comprise a stable background for the professional career of learners, while offering supplementary, advanced knowledge and competences, convertible and adjustable to the varying needs of the economy and society.
To this end, education in the Department has the following specifications:
- Provision of infrastructure knowledge, to allow graduates of the Department approaching modern technology and monitoring its progress.
- Provision of modern and specialized knowledge in the subject of study, allowing graduates to excel in their professional career.
- At the same time, emphasis is put on the applied character of education, so that the knowledge provided are directly applicable and the graduates have knowledge and experience over practical problems.
Relation To Employment
The graduates of the Department are able to work as an Electrical Engineer, as per the relevant Greek law.
Based on a series of legal clauses, the graduates of the Department are granted, directly or under conditions, with the right to exercise the operations of the installer electrician (Presidential Decree 108/07.06.2013, Government Gazette 141Α/12.06.2013), the right to conduct fire protection studies (firefighting clauses 3/2.12.1980 Government Gazette 20Β/19.01.1981, 3α/20.08.1981, Government Gazette 538Β/11.09.1981, 8/07.08.1997, Government Gazette 725Β/19.08.1997), right to maintain and repair cars, motorcycles, and mopeds (L. 1575/03.12.1985, Government Gazette 207Α/11.12.1985), register in the registry of energy inspectors (P.D. 100/30.10.2010, Government Gazette 177Α/06.10.2010, L. 4030 /21.11.2011, Government Gazette 249Α/25.11.2011), right to operate machines used in technical works (P.D. 113/17.10.2012, Government Gazette 198Α/17.10.2012), right to design, construct, maintain, repair, and supervise the operation of electromechanical modules used for burning liquid and gas fuels (P.D. 114/17.10.2012, Government Gazette 199Α/17.10.2012), right to operate as a foreman engineer in industrial facilities and other units (P.D. 115/17.10.2012, Government Gazette 200Α/17.20.2012), right to register in the registry of inspectors of processing facilities (P.D. 126/05.11.2012, Government Gazette 227Α/16.11.2012), right to design, manufacture, maintain, and control cooling facilities (P.D. 1/07.01.2013, Government Gazette 3Α/08.01.2013), right to provide safety services (L. 3707/08, Government Gazette 209Α/08.10.2008).
Transitions
Access to this type of qualification have those who have completed at least the secondary education (level 4).
Holders of such qualifications gain access to study programmes at the same level or at level 7 or 8.
