Description

Knowledge:
• Have specialised knowledge in the academic field of sustainable development and in particular in the fields of local development, environmental management and consumer education.
• Demonstrate a critical understanding of the principles, theories, methodologies and practices of sustainable development as related to scientific disciplines linked with the interest of local development, consumer behaviour, environmental protection, local government, statistics, environmental planning and consumer protection.
• Have increased critical understanding of the evolutionary dynamics and cutting-edge issues of sustainable development.

Skills:
• Implement fluently theories and methodologies of Sustainable Development in their research, studies and work in a critical and creative way.
• Implement with originality knowledge acquired in the research, analysis and development of innovative solutions to complex, interdisciplinary and innovative issues related to local development, environmental management and consumer education.
• Are able to evaluate, interpret and promote modern scientific research and studies in relation to Sustainable Development.
• Articulate inductively in a scientifically justified way, solutions to complex and new issues and formulate valid judgments in light of current relevant social, economic, cultural and ethical dimensions.
• Document their positions with specialist information and arguments, towards a specialised or non public, with clarity, efficiency and accuracy.

Further Information

The subject of the Postgraduate Programme is the study and application of methods to Sustainable Development covering mainly the areas: Local Development, Environmental Management, Consumer Education. The M.Sc. aims to create scientific specialists capable of participating in drawing up local and regional development programs, environmental impact studies and consumer protection programs; to train qualified scientists who will cover staffing needs of public and private entities in the areas of Local Development, Environmental Management and Consumer Education; to develop research and promote knowledge in areas of sustainable development.

Since the academic year 2014-2015, the M.Sc. of four semesters became intensive with duration of one calendar year. Starting from the same academic year, the operation of a part-time programme is provided.

Relation To Employment

Holders of M.Sc. in “Sustainable Development” have the opportunity to work in high positions in both the private and public sectors, and as self-employed.

Transitions

Access to this type of qualification have those who hold a Bachelor Degree (level 6). The selection of graduate students is mainly based on the following criteria: the overall grade of the Bachelor Degree, the grades in undergraduate courses that are relevant with the subjects of the Master’s program, the performance in thesis, where is foreseen at the undergraduate level and any research activity of the candidate. The detailed application of the above mentioned criteria, the definition of additional criteria or the conducting of examinations and interviews, the results of which are taken into account in the selection, are determined by decision of the relevant Department.
Holders of such qualifications gain access to study programmes at the same level or at level 8.
