Further Information
"The purpose of the Dertment ofomter Engineering ofthens Technical Edution Institute is to ove high level ofechnolal edutionwith the purposofreating scientists with a high level ofnowdg skills, and mtences conrning the science and chnolofomters, comnication and fortics.
Specifically, the Dertment's curriculum serves the folwg purpos
- Proveuality higher edution, in accordance with the internationally accepted standards.
- Ensure the technological direction of studies, focused on laboratory training, in combination with quality theoretical education.
- Keep up with the latest developments in research and technology, and adjust its educational subject to them.
- Cultivate skills to its graduates, which shall enable them to cope (a) with a competitive work environment, (b) with postgraduate studies, and (c) with the need to keep up with the developments of research and technology.
- Formulate a suitable educational environment through volunteering and extrovert services provided by Athens TEI, so that the graduates, apart from their technological education, formulate into complete and socially sensitive personalities.
Apart from the above, the Department of Computer Engineering participates in research and development programmes, offering its students educational consulting, which is specifically focused on postgraduate studies, while developing the educational role of information technology and supporting actions for mixed learning.
The orientation, focus, and main cognitive subjects of the Curriculum:
The Curriculum supports 54 courses, of which 27 are branch courses and 27 have been allocated to the following three, institutionalized, Directions:
a) Software Engineers
b) Computer Engineers
c) Network Engineers
Based on the above directions, the Undergraduate Programme of the Department of Computer Engineers focuses on the following general axes:
- Computer Sciences, focused on the theoretical and algorithmic principles of computing, on programming, and on information management.
- Technologies for Software, Computers, and Communications, with emphasis on the analysis, design, and implementation of software systems, and on the design, implementation, and support of networks and computer systems, with the main objective the successful development and operation of modern informative environments (infrastructures, communication services, content services, added value services).
- Information Systems, with emphasis on the analysis of requirements, and also on the design and implementation of systems, with the purpose of supporting the information management procedures and the administration procedures at every level of an organization / business.
- Hardware and Computer Systems, with emphasis on the design, development and maintenance of computer systems, computer peripherals, integrated systems, composite sensor systems, and also on the design and programming of integrated circuits.
Regardless of the direction, the basic cognitive areas of the Programme of Studies includes, among others, the following:
- Algorithms and Complexity

Relation To Employment
The graduate of the Department of Informatics knows the scientific methodology, has developed technical abilities and skills, has gained experiences from the professional practice and is able to operate professionally, successfully supporting the use of information technology and communications in all areas of use . In particular, the Graduate of the Department, either as self-employed, either as a business or organisation executive in the public or private sector has the following possibilities:
- Apply the principles of science and technology in the analysis, design and implementation of software systems, as a Systems and Applications Developer.
- Analyse and cover the needs of organizations and businesses, through the design, development, implementation, integration, configuration, management and support of computer technologies (software, hardware and communications) as a Computer Engineer.
- Design, develop and maintain computer systems, computer peripherals, integrated systems, advanced sensor systems, as well as planning and program integrated circuits, as a Computer Engineer.
In addition, the graduate of the Department can work as a educator or Computer Engineer, at all levels of education.
In addition, the Graduate of the Department can cope comprehensively with the needs of monitoring research development, the innovation of technology, and lifelong learning. Moreover, they can also extend and further refine their cognitive field by conducting postgraduate studies to obtain postgraduate academic degrees (M.Sc., Ph.D.) in the Universities in Greece or abroad.
