Further Information

The cognitive subject of the Department of Energy Technology covers the fields of sciences in the area of energy, and specifically the applications in Energy Mechanical Engineering and Energy Electrical Engineering, with emphasis on the exploitation of conventional, renewable, and new energy sources, on the production conversion, transport, storage, control and use of energy, on the management, saving and environmental treatment of energy. At the same time, basic knowledge on relevant financial and legal issues are covered.
The purposes of this department are the following:

- The provision of high level knowledge to students on the wide subject of energy and energy applications.
- The elaboration on fundamental scientific knowledge, the wide cover of the cognitive subject, and the provision of knowledge about the latest scientific and technological developments.
- The development of student skills for their scientific and professional development.
- The development of applied and technological research with the purpose of advancing scientific knowledge in general.
The curriculum of the Department is structured with two directions:

a) Direction of Energy Mechanical Engineering

This direction covers the cognitive fields of production and transport of energy, of energy conversions, and energy storage, along with the basic fields of manufacturing mechanical engineering.
These fields include various cognitive subjects, such as:
Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Heat Transfer, Hydrodynamic Machines, Machine Elements, Internal Combustion Engines, Thermal Turbomachines, Steam Boilers and Thermal Plants, Cooling and Conditioning, Machining Technology & Tribology, Environmental Technologies

b) Direction of Energy Electrical Engineering

This direction covers the cognitive fields of production, transport, distribution, conversion, storage, control, and use of electrical energy.
These fields include various cognitive subjects, such as: Electrotechnics, Electrical Network Analysis, Electrical Machines, Measuring Systems, Analog and Digital Electronics, Power Electronics, Electrotechnical and Magnetic Materials, Power Plants, Transportation and Distribution of Electrical Energy, Storage of Electrical Energy, Automatic Control Systems, Electrical Motion Systems, Electrical Installations, Designs of Energy Systems.

In addition, the curriculum includes other general and special infrastructure courses such as Mathematics, Physics, Technical Drawing, Information Technology, Computer Programming, Sources of Energy, Renewable Energy Sources, Technical Legislation and Occupational Safety, Energy Management, Economic Analysis and Entrepreneurship, Technical Legislation and Occupational Safety, Optimization of Energy Systems and Energy Efficiency of buildings and electromechanical installations.

Relation To Employment

The title of study is directly related to a wide range of energy applications and specifically with general subjects of Energy Engineering and Electrical Energy Engineering. The professional activity of graduates for some of these subjects are associated with the practice license. For this reason, a series of presidential decrees have been issued, some of which are recent (years of issue: 2012 and 2013), bestowing to the department graduates professional rights in a number of statutory activities.


Access to this type of qualification have those who have completed at least the secondary education (level 4).
Holders of such qualifications gain access to study programmes at the same level or at level 7 or 8.
