The purpose of the Department is to prepare Nursing personnel who shall be capable of promoting, protecting, preserving, and restoring the health of persons / groups or the autonomy of vital physical and mental operations of them, taking into consideration the personality of each person and their psychological, social, financial, and cultural characteristics. The curriculum of the Department covers the cognitive subject of Nursing as a humanitarian science and as a specialised art, which is a complex scientific activity, addressed to the individual, to the family, and to society in general, in all conditions of health and disease. The curriculum of the educational programme includes or is focused on five key concepts: Man, Health, Community, Nursing, and Nursing Education. The courses included in the curriculum of the Department have one of the following forms: a) Practical courses (P), b) Theoretical courses (T), c) Mixed Courses (MC). The subjects of the Department include the following courses: General background, Special background courses, and Specialty Courses. General background: ANATOMY, PHYSIOLOGY, PATHOLOGY, PHARMACOLOGY, MICROBIOLOGY, SURGERY, PSYCHIATRY, PAEDIATRICS HEALTH INFORMATICS, BIOLOGY / GENETICS, BIOSTATISTICS, GERIATRICS. Special background courses: INTRODUCTION TO NURSING SCIENCE, BASIC PRINCIPLES OF NURSING, NUTRITION / DIETETICS, DIAGNOSTIC NURSING / TYPOLOGY, RESEARCH METHODS IN NURSING, TEACHING METHODS IN NURSING, PROMOTION OF AND EDUCATION ON HEALTH, EPIDEMIOLOGY, and Specialty Courses: SURGICAL NURSING, PATHOLOGICAL NURSING, PAEDIATRICS - MIDWIFERY NURSING, MENTAL HEALTH NURSING / NEUROLOGIC NURSING, EMERGENCY NURSING-ICU, COMMUNITY NURSING, GERIATRICS NURSING, CARDIOLOGY NURSING, ONCOLOGY NURSING, NURSING FOR OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH & SAFETY, REHABILITATION NURSING, SPECIALTY ENGLISH, INTERCULTURAL NURSING, FIRST AID.
The last semester includes a Dissertation, while relevant Practical Training may also be conducted. The curriculum includes a variety of activities, such as Research Programmes conducted by the Educational Personnel of the Department in collaboration with other Departments or other health organisations, as well as in collaboration with foreign Universities.
Relation To Employment
The title of studies is necessary for practicing the profession of nursing and is related to a Nursing practice license. The professional rights of graduates are specified with Government Gazette 79 / 19.01.2015, No G4a / G.P3567, Duties and Responsibilities of Nurses.
Transitions
Access to this type of qualification have those who have completed at least the secondary education (level 4).
Holders of such qualifications gain access to study programmes at the same level or at level 7 or 8.
