The mission of the Department is to educate quality social workers, by providing modern knowledge that will secure a successful scientific and professional activity within the context of the changing social needs of the rapidly developing science and technology. At the same time, the mission of the Department includes the promotion and conduct of research, contributing to the progress of Social Work, as an applied social science, and to the developmental process of the country. The entire duration of the programme is eight (8) semesters. From the first to the seventh semester, there are 43 courses available. 35 of them are compulsory and 8 are elective and compulsory (semester E, F, G), from which the student must select 4. In the last semester (H), the Practical Training is conducted, along with the Dissertation. In order to graduate, the students must pass 39 courses (35 compulsory and 4 elective compulsory), the Practical Training, and the Dissertation. Each course has a specific workload and credits (Ministerial Decision F5/89656/Β3 Government Gazette 1466 /13.8.2007 "System for transferring and accumulating credits").

Transitions
Access to this type of qualification have those who have completed at least the secondary education (level 4).
Holders of such qualifications gain access to study programmes at the same level or at level 7 or 8.
