The Department of Environmental and Natural Resources Engineering aims to provide knowledge and develop research in subjects related to the identification, evaluation, and management of natural resources, the technologies for managing renewable energy sources, the protection of the environment, the identification, monitoring, and management of environmental pollution, geophysics and natural disasters, geoinformatics, sustainable development, and construction and design technologies.
Relation To Employment
The Certified Engineers of the Technological Field of Higher Education of the Department of Natural Resources and of the Environment of the School of Technological Applications of the Technological Educational Institutes, based on their scientific and technological knowledge, upon acquiring the relevant practice license, could work, either on their own or in collaboration with scientists of other fields, in the private or public sector, with regard to the following: - Measurements of solar, wind, geothermic, and water potential of areas, as well as of the environmental parameters, on their own or by participating in research groups, and preparing the relevant studies as necessary. - Investigating, locating, and evaluating underground water resources, while preparing the relevant geological and hydrogeological studies. - Development and application of suitable technologies for the monitoring, prevention, and management of natural disasters. - Design and support of systems using renewable energy sources. - Construction and support of wastewater and solid waste management units. - Design, construction, and support of units for processing and bottling potable water. - Laboratory quality control for water resources. - Design and implementation of management plans for reserved areas. - Preparation, analysis, and interpretation of products of Geographical Information Systems (GIS), theme maps, horizontal layouts of projects resulting from GIS, etc.
Transitions
Access to this type of qualification have those who have completed at least the secondary education (level 4).
Holders of such qualifications gain access to study programmes at the same level or at level 7 or 8.
