The basic objectives in the provision of knowledge by the curriculum of the department of Civil and Structural Engineering is the substantial response to new technological developments in the specific field and the adjustment of knowledge to the current technological requirements of the labour market, in order for graduates to be able to offer excellent services and increase the absorption of the Department graduates by the labour market. Specifically, the basic knowledge of the education is the understanding and adjustment of IT applications on various subjects, such as the preparation of designs, the supervision of structural works, the organization and management of sites, the renovation of buildings, the saving of energy, and the environmental technologies.
SKILLS: The profession of Civil and Structural Engineer includes numerous professional skills that cover a significant part of the designs and constructions of structural works, the organization and control of the site, the production, and marketing of structural materials, training in all levels, topographical mappings, etc.
COMPETENCES: An effort has been made in order for the cognitive subject of the profession, as such is specialized in the curriculum, to correspond not only to the needs of the Greek society but also to the needs of the labour market. The degree of Civil Engineer offers competences for the preparation of architectural and structural designs, for organizing worksites and knowledge about environmental technology.

Further Information

Initially, at the first semesters of study, there is a general introduction to the courses of Physics, Mathematics and Engineering, in order for students to be capable of copying with the needs of the following semesters. From the third semester and onwards, an introduction is made to specialised courses of Civil Engineering, such as Material Strength, Concrete, Topography, and Architecture. Then, in the last semesters, knowledge is offered for the substantial application of the profession and courses are taught on structural software, architectural design, topographic mapping, and environmental studies.

Relation To Employment

The degree of Civil and Structural Engineer is necessary for the exercise of the profession of Civil Engineer at technological level. It is required for the preparation of structural and architectural designs, for topographic designs and mappings and for the environmental design.


Access to this type of qualification have those who have completed at least the secondary education (level 4).
Holders of such qualifications gain access to study programmes at the same level or at level 7 or 8.
