Knowledge: The curriculum of the Department of Civil Engineering and Surveying and Geomatics Engineers of the Technological Educational Institute of Central Macedonia covers the cognitive field of plotting, organising, analysing, and managing space. In particular, it refers to:
• The creation and updating of the suitable cartographic background with the use of surveying and photogrammetry instruments and methods, as well as with the application of remote sensing research, using the modern methods of science, with the assistance of information technology, with the purpose using such background in the following: designs for roadworks, hydraulic works, urban construction works, zoning works, cadastre works, and agricultural development.
• The management and the use of spatial information and the production of theme maps (Application of Geographical Information Systems -GIS) in designs for cadastre works, geology works, environmental impacts, zoning, urban construction works, regional development, agricultural development, evaluation and management of natural resources and the projection - management of natural disasters.
Skills: The curriculum provides students with all necessary skills in the field of Surveying and Geomatics. In particular:
• Provision of the necessary background of knowledge, in order to promote the development and dissemination of knowledge on the Technology and Science of Surveying, with theoretical and practical teaching, and with technological and applied research.
• Surveying - Geodetics networks, using modern surveying instruments, with the purpose of resolving surveying problems, with computer assistance and acquisition of knowledge referring to the establishment and management of networks and the methods for resolving horizontal alignment and elevation grids.
• Satellite geodesy as cutting-edge technology (GNSS), with appropriate methods for detecting signals and correcting them, and strategies and applications thereof in the surveying geodetics studies.
-Photogrammetry, using instruments and methods for the drafting of photogrammetry diagrams.
• Geographical Information Systems (GIS) for connecting geographical data to databases, creating editable information and Digital Elevation Models, and for spatial analysis used in numerous scientific fields.
• Transformations of the Urban Space and Urban Design through the acquisition of core knowledge on urban construction law and the design of the constitutional framework for the transformation of non-urban space to urban areas.
• Urban construction applications.
• General and applied geology for the rendering of soil and geology maps, using Geographical Information Systems.
• Zoning and Regional development and Applications with GIS in the Urban and Zoning design.
• Geometric alignment of roads and application of Geomatics on Public Transport projects.
• Environmental design - Space analysis and the institutional framework for the environment - Ecology and sustainable development for ecological systems, ecosystems, and the flow of energy. Knowledge of ecosystems in Greece.
• Elements of cartography, thematic and digital cartography and Modern Cartographic Visualisations for imaging and the creation of thematic maps, design and creation of modern Cartographic Visualisations.
• Cadastre based on the method for the creation of the cadastre in Greece, in accordance with the applicable legislation.
• Photointerpretation - Remote sensing. Applications of remote sensing within the context of an integrated management and control system.
• Automation Local Governments of the 1st and 2nd level concerning spatial interventions and management, which derives from the mode of operation and their jurisdiction.
• Systems for documenting cultural resources with the purpose of ensuring a suitable background of knowledge, regarding the methodology and the equipment for the rendering, documentation, and promotion of monuments and ensembles.
Competences: The programme provides all necessary competences in order for learners to be able to apply the modern scientific, technological, research, administrative, educational, institutional, and ethical practices and methods obtained through suitable practice in relevant work areas.
