The graduate of the Department of Automation is an engineer, capable of applying the theory of automated control systems on systems of productive processes, with extensive knowledge on electronics, electricity, mechatronics, and computer programming.
1) Applies the scientific and technological methods for the design, development, manufacture, and operation of electrical, electronic, calculative, hydraulic and pneumatic machines, etc., along with the automated control thereof.
2) Performs project assessments and measurements, which belong to systems containing automated control elements.
3) Performs assessments and issues expert reports on facilities with the above systems.
4) Prepares and supervises studies of projects and works concerning automated control system or more general systems, such as electric systems, electronic, electromechanical, calculative, mechatronic systems, etc., within the context of public or private projects, as a freelancer or as an employee of companies of the public or private law.
5) Uses, programmes, maintains, configures, and adjusts computers, microcomputers, microcontrollers, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), programmable CNC machine tools, robotic devices, and generally equipment implementing methods and algorithms for automated control.
6) Is able to provide solutions to production problems requiring the introduction of automation technology, and meets the conditions, through suitable specialization, of advancing to new fields of automation.
As a production engineer, the graduate of the Department of Automation has two key advantages over engineers with standard specialisations:
a) Knowledge on new technology used by production.
b) Spherical education allowing him/her to understand the various technological problems of the factory and of the productive processes in general.

Further Information

The general objective purpose of the programme is to ready Engineers, who are capable of advancing the application of the theory for automated control systems to systems used in productive processes, having extensive knowledge on electronics, electrical engineering, mechatronics, and computer science.

Relation To Employment

Holders of qualifications that belong to this type may work either as self-employed or in positions of responsibility in companies and organizations in the private or in the public sector.


Access to this type of qualification have those who have completed at least the secondary education (level 4).
Holders of such qualifications gain access to study programmes at the same level or at level 7 or 8.
