Description

The graduates of the Department of Speech and Language Therapy bear the title of "Speech and Language Therapists". They are able to work either autonomously or in collaboration in the fields of Speech and Language Therapy, i.e. the science focused on the study, research, and application of scientific knowledge regarding Human Communication - Voice, Discourse, Speech (written, oral), non-verbal communication and its disorders, as well as the disorders of oropharynx's swallowing movements.

Further Information

The Department of Speech and Language Therapy has the following objectives:
• Education of students on the application of biological and natural sciences for the evaluation of human communication (discourse, speech and voice) and of oropharynx's swallowing movements, along with the prevention, treatment, and scientific research of the disorders related to them.
• Provision of prevention, diagnosis, and treatment services for disorders appearing in children, in adults, in schools, kindergartens, hospitals, and other institutions, as well as in the Language and Speech Therapy Clinic of the Department.
• Scientific research on issues concerning discourse, voice and speech for typical populations, including the disorders thereof.

The curriculum of the Department covers the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and scientific research of the disorders of human communication (discourse, speech and voice) and of oropharynx's swallowing movements.

The curriculum provides background courses from the scientific fields of Linguistics, Medicine, and Psychology, the necessary specialisation courses in the disorders of speech, discourse, voice and hearing, as well as courses on new technologies.

Relation To Employment

The graduate of the Department of Speech and Language Therapy may work as a Language and Speech Therapist, as per the relevant Greek law.

Transitions

Access to this type of qualification have those who have completed at least the secondary education (level 4).
Holders of such qualifications gain access to study programmes at the same level or at level 7 or 8.
