Upon completing their studies, the graduate of the Department of Furniture Design and Wood Technology, of Technological Education, acquires the necessary, as per international standards, theoretical and technological knowledge and skills in order to engage with following sectors: i) production of wood products), ii) production of furniture and wood structures, iii) design of original furniture and wood structures, and application of design proposals following new technologies and the latest market trends, iv) organization and operation of units for the production and marketing of wood products and furniture, v) application of technical specifications for the production of wood products, furniture and wood structures, and the application of quality control rules and quality assurance systems, vi) wood furniture and decoration. Based on the knowledge and skills acquired, the graduates may successfully: a) pursue Postgraduate Studies in Tertiary Educational Institutions domestically or abroad, b) follow, based on the background of their studies, the fast developments, both theoretical and technological, in their cognitive subject, and c) work in every aspect of the subject of the Department, either as freelancers or as managers or executives in relevant or public businesses, organisations, and agencies.
Relation To Employment
With the degree in Furniture Design and Wood Technology of Technological Education, as per the approved vocational rights (Presidential Decree 97/2006 – Government Gazette 98/16.5.2006, bulletin Α), all graduates of the Department shall be capable of engaging with the entire aspect of the field of Wood and Furniture, and specifically with the following: a) Design of furniture and furniture systems, as well as the creation of original design proposals. b) Application of technological methods for the production of furniture. c) Production of wood products and wooden structures (cut wood, wood plates, wood panels, impregnated wood, wood and paper pulp, products of wood pyrolysis, frames, roofs, floors, prefabricated wooden houses, and other wooden structures). d) Assessment and costing of products made of wood, furniture and wooden structures. e) Furniture and decoration made of wood. f) Verification of application of technical specifications and of the application of the principles and rules of quality control and systems of quality assurance over the entire scope of wood products, furniture, and wooden structures. g) Study regarding the establishment, organization, management, operation, and manning of units concerning wood, furniture, and wooden structures, as well as units marketing wooden products and furniture. h) Provision of safety technician and occupational health services, and i) Engagement with every level of the public and private education.
Transitions
Access to this type of qualification have those who have completed at least the secondary education (level 4).
Holders of such qualifications gain access to study programmes at the same level or at level 7 or 8.
