Τhe Postgraduate Studies Programme is offered by the Hellenic Fire Officers School of the Hellenic Fire Academy, in collaboration with the Technical Educational Institute of East Macedonia and Thrace, and specifically the Department of Engineering of Oil & Natural Gas Technology and of Mechanical Engineering of Technological Education, the Department of Electrical Engineering of Technological Education, the Department of Business Administration, and the Department of Forestry and Management of the Natural Environment. This is a single title, granted in common by both institutions.
The purpose of the Postgraduate Studies Programme is to train suitable executives of the Fire Brigade, along with executives of Civil Protection in modern methods for dealing with risks stemming from natural and anthropogenic disasters.
In particular, the objective is to provide training through innovative procedures and methods on the Management of Risks, Crises, and Disasters (Disasters and the Environment, Aspects of Disasters, Risk perception and assessment), Social and Financial Consequences of Disasters (Adjustment to Disasters, Disasters and Social – Financial Systems), Natural Processes, Risks and Disasters (Geological Disasters, Torrent – River Flooding, Coastal Disasters, Landslides, Earthquakes, Volcanic Activity, Climate Changes, Weather Disaster, Wildfires (Rural and Forest fires). Environmental Risks and Technological Disasters [Environmental Risks, Technological Disasters, Chemical – Biological – Radiological – Nuclear (CBRN) Threats]; Treatment of electrical – mechanical disasters, Treatment of the spread of oil spills and fires caused by the burning of hydrocarbons, Technical Interventions for the Mitigation of Risk (Identification of Conventional and Historical Monuments, Structure Analysis, Structure Assessment, Technical Structures in case of Earthquake, Works for Mitigating and Diverting Floods, Measures for Protection against Fires (Civil – Forest fires, Protection regulations and works, Medical Planning), Principles of Geoinformatics for Disaster Management (Earth Observation Space Systems, Global Positioning Systems, Geographic Information Systems), EU Civil Protection Mechanism.
