The aim of the course is to train students with emphasis on the creation of engineers oriented in the Field of Energy and Construction. The Department's graduates have high-level theoretical background and a particularly important laboratory experience to be able to adapt to the constantly changing field of scientific and technological developments. They have also cultivated skills that will allow them to respond to the rapid developments in the exercise of the profession of Electrical Engineer.
Studies in the Department of Electrical Engineering of the Piraeus University of Applied Sciences cover subjects related to the science and technologies of the Energy Electrical Engineer. The courses are:
- Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry with emphasis on applications of engineering.
- Electrical circuits and electrical measurements.
- Electronics, Logic Design and Microprocessors.
- Electrical Machines and Power Electronics.
- Generation, Transmission and Distribution of Electricity.
- Building and Industrial Electromechanical Installations.
- Renewable energy sources.
- High Voltage Technology, Protection of Plants and Electricity Systems.
- Lighting Technology.
- Automatic Control Systems and Electric Drive.
- Energy and Environment (recycling and eco-design).
- Household Appliances and Security Specifications, Heating Elements, Design and Manufacturing of Magnetic Components.
-- Arc Welding Systems, ohmic and induction heating.
Relation To Employment
The qualification has specific professional rights which, as far as the design, construction, inspection and maintenance of electrical installations are concerned, were established by Royal Decree 699 of 10/17.11.1971, Official Gazette 233A '.
The T.E. Electrical Engineers, according to the Presidential Decree 108/07.06.2013 (Official Gazette 141A/12.06.2013), upon award of their diploma, may apply to the competent service of the region in order to gain immediate right to pursue the professional activities of installer-electrician (group 3 of specialty A), installer of luminescent pipes and inscriptions (specialty C), and of the 1st and 2nd group of specialty D, and/or of maintainer-electrician of specialty D.
Transitions
Access to this type of qualification have those who have completed at least the secondary education (level 4).
Holders of such qualifications gain access to study programmes at the same level or at level 7 or 8.
