The Introductory Direction of Tourism and Hospitality Management consists of two courses axes:
A) Courses covering the discipline of Management Science.
B) Courses focusing on specialized knowledge necessary for excellent scientific understanding and dealing with Tourism and Hospitality Management; courses providing specialised theoretical background and specialised mathematical, economic and informational skills and the technical training needs through laboratory applications and exercises.
The curriculum of the Direction of Tourism and Hospitality Management includes the following fields:
Business Management, Quantitative Methods, Marketing, Law, IT, Accounting, Economics, Finance, Foreign Language, Basic Concepts in Tourism, Organisation and Operation of Travel Industry, Food Business Administration, Special Forms of Tourism, Hospitality Business Management, Special Topics in Tourism.
The graduate of the Introductory Direction of Tourism and Hospitality Management is aware of the scientific methodology, has developed technical abilities and skills, gained experience of professional practice and is able to operate professionally, successfully supporting the development of his/her theoretical and empirical knowledge on the subject of Tourism and Hospitality Management.
In particular, the graduate of the Introductory Direction of Tourism and Hospitality Management, either as self-employed or as an executive of tourist business or organisation in the public or private sector, has the possibility to:
• Apply the principles of scientific knowledge and technical training in the design and analysis of successful policies for tourism development in public or private institutions.
• Analyse financial and information data in order to come up with appropriate indicators to improve the tourism product.
• Plan and develop various forms of tourism, alternative (religious, agro-tourism etc.) or non (organisation of conferences and events, marine tourism).
• Develop techniques to improve the service provided, and techniques of business risk management.
• Exercise modern administration for the achievement of the tourist business objectives.
• Apply scientific and technological administrative methods and practices in the production, pricing, distribution and promotion of tourist products.
• Conduct tourism market research to determine which products are required by potential tourists.
• Plan the economic and other activity of the tourism business, with absolute respect for the environment, both natural and built.
• Investigate and evaluate the potential for exploitation of tourist resources, destinations and, by extension, their tourism development.
• Most effectively manage the human resources of the tourism business.
In addition, the graduate of the Introductory Direction of Tourism and Hospitality Management and Business Hosting can comprehensively respond to the needs of monitoring developments in research and innovation of technology, and lifelong learning. He/she can also extend and refine his/her knowledge field by conducting postgraduate studies to obtain post-graduate academic degrees (M.Sc., Ph.D.) at the Universities of Greece or abroad.
Relation To Employment
Holders of qualifications that belong to this type may work either as self-employed or in positions of responsibility in companies and organizations in the private or in the public sector.
Transitions
Access to this type of qualification have those who have completed at least the secondary education (level 4).
Holders of such qualifications gain access to study programmes at the same level or at level 7 or 8.
